Diamond
and Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) Coatings
Diamond and diamond like carbon (DLC)
are among the fastest growing fields of coatings. Due to their high
hardness, these coatings provide superior wear resistance. While TiN
(titanium nitrate) has been the dominant wear resistant coating over
the last 10-20 years, DLC’s superior performance is causing many
industries to begin switching away from TiN and other nitride coatings.
Applications for DLC coatings include release/anti-wear coatings for
plastic injection molding and wear coatings for automotive and other
high-wear applications.
Dr. Kester was a member of the group
at Penn State University that first introduced diamond coatings into
the U.S., and has a broad range of experience in both R&D and production
of DLC and diamond coatings. This experience gives him an excellent
understanding of the applicability of the coatings for a range of applications,
as well as a good knowledge of the various diamond and diamond-like
coatings currently available. We can help you in determining if DLC
or diamond is appropriate for your application, and work with you in
introducing it into your manufacturing process.
